QUERY F1KS 11 - Digital Media Elements for Applications

4 messages

This unit requires the following:

"Use appropriate software tools to create a short video clip of approximately 30 seconds including a midi sound file, a 2d animation, a bitmap and a vector graphic"

Does anyone know of any video editing software that can import midi files? Neither Windows Movie Maker nor Adobe Premiere will actually import midi files, and off-hand I don't know of any other video editing tools that support MIDI.

I seen this but as it 's a "draft" ASP we have I was hoping it would be sorted before we got the final paper.

Maybe Bill Brown should be alerted to this sooner rather than later just incase it hasn't been picked up during the vetting process.

Hi Colin.

I'm surprised at this requirement since we don't normally define a specific type of file (in this case, MIDI) and I appreciate the problems that such specifics can present to you. The problem is compounded by the fact that, once added, it's impossible to tell if the audio track was originally MIDI or MP3 or another audio format.

Not that I'm suggesting anything with that last sentence of course.

MIDI is not really an audio file but is a recording of note-on, note-off signals. The MIDI file can be converted to audio using a MIDI synthesizer but, unless you use the original synthesizer it was composed on, it will sound dreadful. You will have to convert it to an audio file before using it in a video editing package. The easy way is to start Audacity recording, from "what you hear" or line out and then play the MIDI file in windows media player. The Audacity recording can be exported as a WAV or MP3 if you have the lame CODEC. P.S. PowerPoint can play MIDI files but there is normally a significant delay before it plays.
